Starts with Thankfulness

November 28, 2016

Colossians 1:We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you,……For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,…… 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[f] to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light.

Colossians 2: So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Because of Christ salvation,

  1. You are qualified
  2. Because you are qualified you are rooted, made strong in Faith
  3. Overflowing with thankfulness

Colossians 3: 15 Let the peace of Christ rule in your hearts, since as members of one body you were called to peace. And be thankful. 16 Let the message of Christ dwell among you richly as you teach and admonish one another with all wisdom through psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit, singing to God with gratitude in your hearts. 17 And whatever you do,whether in word or deed, do it all in the name of the Lord Jesus, giving thanks to God the Father through him.

The Thanksgiving life is responsible to….

  1. Teach people the gospel
  2. Admonish (hold each other accountable) the church
  3. When we sing, we sing with Gratitude not attitude
  4. And do everything in Name of Jesus, because Jesus gave us everything!

1 Thessalonians 5:18

In Everything Give Thanks

1 Thessalonians 5:

16 Rejoice always!
17 Pray constantly.
18 Give thanks in everything,
for this is God’s will for you in Christ Jesus.

19 Don’t stifle the Spirit.
20 Don’t despise prophecies,
21 but test all things.
Hold on to what is good.
22 Stay away from every kind of evil.

What does thanksgiving Christian accomplish.

1 – Reflects on those who lack thanksgiving! (2 Timothy 3:1-5)

  1. The Saints in heaven are full of Thanksgiving (Revelation 7:12)
  2. Saints on earth are full of thanksgiving (Psalm 84:4)
  3. a) For Supply of our needs (Matthew 6:11)
  4. b) For the gift of His Love (Psalm 106:1)
  5. c) For the gift of Christ. ( 2 Cor. 9:15)

 Colossians 1:1-14

We Thank …….

Paul, an apostle of Christ Jesus by the will of God, and Timothy our brother,To God’s holy people in Colossae, the faithful brothers and sisters[a] in Christ: Grace and peace to you from God our Father.[b]We always thank God, the Father of our Lord Jesus Christ, when we pray for you, because we have heard of your faith in Christ Jesus and of the love you have for all God’s people— the faith and love that spring from the hope stored up for you in heaven and about which you have already heard in the true message of the gospel that has come to you. In the same way, the gospel is bearing fruit and growing throughout the whole world—just as it has been doing among you since the day you heard it and truly understood God’s grace. You learned it from Epaphras, our dear fellow servant,[c] who is a faithful minister of Christ on our[d] behalf, and who also told us of your love in the Spirit.

For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives,[e] 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience,12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you[f] to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins.

Laodicea

Oct. 29, 2016

Rev. 3:14-22

14 “Write to the angel of the church in Laodicea:

“The Amen, the faithful and true Witness, the Originator[h] of God’s creation says: 15 I know your works, that you are neither cold nor hot. I wish that you were cold or hot. 16 So, because you are lukewarm, and neither hot nor cold, I am going to vomit[i] you out of My mouth.17 Because you say, ‘I’m rich; I have become wealthy and need nothing,’ and you don’t know that you are wretched, pitiful, poor, blind, and naked, 18 I advise you to buy from Me gold refined in the fire so that you may be rich, white clothes so that you may be dressed and your shameful nakedness not be exposed, and ointment to spread on your eyes so that you may see. 19 As many as I love, I rebuke and discipline. So be committed[j] and repent. 20 Listen! I stand at the door and knock. If anyone hears My voice and opens the door, I will come in to him and have dinner with him, and he with Me. 21 The victor: I will give him the right to sit with Me on My throne, just as I also won the victory and sat down with My Father on His throne.

22 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.”

Laodicea as a city

1.      Self-accomplished

2.      Money was good

I know….

1.   Jesus has seen with His own eyes!

2.   He is competent/ qualified to make the testimony He makes!

3.   His Testimony is True, because He is True.

I know

·        The motivations of your works

·        Your reasons for your religion

They no longer…”need”

·        The Father to feed them.

·        The Father to clothe them.

·        The Father to care for their health.

The results of the perception of no need, leads to

·        No time to study God’s Word

·        No eagerness to display the love you have for your Father

These are simply the symptoms of previous statements…

·        Apathy in the family of God = meaning Lazy, I do not care

·        Maybe even too lazy to answer the door!

Rev. 3:7-13

Philadelphia

“Write to the angel of the church in Philadelphia:

“The Holy One, the True One, the One who has the key of David, who opens and no one will close, and closes and no one opens says: I know your works. Because you have limited strength, have kept My word, and have not denied My name, look, I have placed before you an open door that no one is able to close. Take note! I will make those from the synagogue of Satan, who claim to be Jews and are not, but are lying—note this—I will make them come and bow down at your feet, and they will know that I have loved you. 10 Because you have kept My command to endure,[g] I will also keep you from the hour of testing that is going to come over the whole world to test those who live on the earth. 11 I am coming quickly. Hold on to what you have, so that no one takes your crown. 12 The victor: I will make him a pillar in the sanctuary of My God, and he will never go out again. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God—the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God—and My new name.

13 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.

Key of David = Authority

1.      Jesus opens all the doors for Church.

2.      Jesus closes all the doors for the church.

Promise of Favor!

1.      The enemies of the church will be subject to her.

2.      The enemies will know Christ loves His Church.

·        The Peculiar favor of Christ

·        The enemies will recognize the favor

·        In His favor the Holy Spirit will soften hearts.

Isaiah 49:23

23 Kings will be your foster fathers,
and their queens
[j] your nursing mothers.
They will bow down to you
with their faces to the ground,
and lick the dust at your feet.
Then you will know that I am Yahweh;
those who put their hope in Me
will not be put to shame.

Isaiah 60:14-15

14 The sons of your oppressors
will come and bow down to you;
all who reviled you
will fall facedown at your feet.
They will call you the City of the Lord,
Zion of the Holy One of Israel.
15 Instead of your being deserted and hated,
with no one passing through,
I will make you an object of eternal pride,
a joy from age to age.

John 17:

15 I am not praying
that You take them out of the world
but that You protect them from the evil one.
16 They are not of the world,
as I am not of the world.
17 Sanctify[e] them by the truth;
Your word is truth.
18 As You sent Me into the world,
I also have sent them into the world.
19 I sanctify Myself for them,
so they also may be sanctified by the truth.

Rev. 3

12 The victor: I will make him a pillar in the sanctuary of My God, and he will never go out again. I will write on him the name of My God and the name of the city of My God—the new Jerusalem, which comes down out of heaven from My God—and My new name.

Genesis 50:20

20 You planned evil against me; God planned it for good to bring about the present result—the survival of many people.

Rev. 21 :Then one of the seven angels, who had held the seven bowls filled with the seven last plagues, came and spoke with me: “Come, I will show you the bride, the wife of the Lamb.”…. 22 I did not see a sanctuary in it, because the Lord God the Almighty and the Lamb are its sanctuary. 23 The city does not need the sun or the moon to shine on it, because God’s glory illuminates it, and its lamp is the Lamb. 24 The nations[j] will walk in its light, and the kings of the earth will bring their glory into it.[k] 25 Each day its gates will never close because it will never be night there. 26 They will bring the glory and honor of the nations into it.[l] 27 Nothing profane will ever enter it: no one who does what is vile or false, but only those written in the Lamb’s book of life.

Sardis

Church at Sardis

Oct. 16

“Write to the angel of the church in Sardis:

“The One who has the seven spirits of God and the seven stars says: I know your works; you have a reputation[a] for being alive, but you are dead. Be alert and strengthen[b] what remains, which is about to die, for I have not found your works complete before My God. Remember, therefore, what you have received and heard; keep it, and repent. But if you are not alert, I will come[c] like a thief, and you have no idea at what hour I will come against you.[d] But you have a few people[e] in Sardis who have not defiled[f] their clothes, and they will walk with Me in white, because they are worthy. In the same way, the victor will be dressed in white clothes, and I will never erase his name from the book of life but will acknowledge his name before My Father and before His angels.

“Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches

Sins of Sardis =

1.      Hypocrisy

2.      Decay

Jesus Gave advice to the Church

1.      Stand up, be watchful, oppose Satan

2.      Have inward affection to Christ to show the outward fruit.

3.      Remember the zeal of your youth

4.      Repent

But you have a few people[e] in Sardis who have not defiled[f] their clothes, and they will walk with Me in white, because they are worthy. In the same way, the victor will be dressed in white clothes, and I will never erase his name from the book of life but will acknowledge his name before My Father and before His angels.

What is saving Faith?

1.      Knowledge alone is not enough

2.      Agreeing and approval are not enough

3.      I must depend on Jesus –

The reward?

the victor will be dressed in white clothes, and I will never erase his name from the book of life but will acknowledge his name before My Father and before His angels.

The Letter to Thyatira

October 10, 2016

Thyatira

Rev. 2:18-29

Oct. 9

18 “Write to the angel of the church in Thyatira:

“The Son of God, the One whose eyes are like a fiery flame and whose feet are like fine bronze,[l] says: 19 I know your works—your love, faithfulness,[m] service, and endurance. Your last works are greater than the first. 20 But I have this against you: You tolerate the woman Jezebel, who calls herself a prophetess and teaches and deceives My slaves to commit sexual immorality[n] and to eat meat sacrificed to idols. 21 I gave her time to repent, but she does not want to repent of her sexual immorality.[o] 22 Look! I will throw her into a sickbed and those who commit adultery with her into great tribulation, unless they repent of her[p] practices. 23 I will kill her children with the plague.[q] Then all the churches will know that I am the One who examines minds[r] and hearts, and I will give to each of you according to your works. 24 I say to the rest of you in Thyatira, who do not hold this teaching, who haven’t known the deep things[s] of Satan—as they say—I do not put any other burden on you. 25 But hold on to what you have until I come. 26 The one who is victorious and keeps My works to the end: I will give him authority over the nations—

27 and he will shepherd[t] them with an iron scepter;
he will shatter them like pottery
[u]just as I have received this from My Father. 28 I will also give him the morning star.

29 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.

Psalm 2:7-9,12

I will declare the Lord’s decree:
He said to Me, “You are My Son;
[f]
today I have become Your
[g] Father.
Ask of Me,
and I will make the nations Your
[h] inheritance
and the ends of the earth Your
[i] possession.
You will break[j] them with a rod of iron;
You
[k] will shatter them like pottery.”

12 Pay homage to[m] the Son or He[n] will be angry
and you will perish in your rebellion,
[o]
for His
[p] anger may ignite at any moment.
All those who take refuge in Him
[q] are happy.

John 20:31 - 31 But these are written so that you may believe Jesus is the Messiah, the Son of God,[f] and by believing you may have life in His name.

1 John 5:20 And we know that the Son of God has come and has given us understanding so that we may know the true One.[h] We are in the true One—that is, in His Son Jesus Christ. He is the true God and eternal life.

21 Little children, guard yourselves from idols.

Put this on screen but not in out line, Barbara please room for them to right this if they want to

1)      eyes fiery flamepiercing perfect knowledge, He knows all and sees all.

·        Church we are not hiding our idol worship and sin from Him. And can let you in on glimpse, He aint happy about it.

2)  Bronze feet -  He judges with perfect wisdom and acts with perfect strength and steadfast.

So what did Jezebel lead the church to do?

1)   Misuse of the name of God – They misused the word of God to make it say things that are not of the will of God.

2)   Abused long suffering – They abused God’s patience to harden themselves in wickedness, and refusal to repent.

·        Repentance

A)   Is needed to prevent the ruin of sinners

B)   Requires time, meaning repentance will show itself in time.

C)   Where God gives space and time for repentance, He requires fruit from that repentance.

D)  When space for repentance is lost, the sinner will perish.

Rev. 2: 21 I gave her time to repent, but she does not want to repent of her sexual immorality.[o] 22 Look!

So what of the Jezebel punishment?

Vs. 22 – What brought pleasure now brings torture

Vs. 23 – Kill her children (2nd Death)

25 But hold on to what you have until I come. 26 The one who is victorious and keeps My works to the end: I will give him authority over the nations—

27 and he will shepherd[t] them with an iron scepter;
he will shatter them like pottery
[u]just as I have received this from My Father. 28 I will also give him the morning star.

29 “Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches.

Numbers 24:17 17 I see him,[g] but not now;
I perceive him,
[h] but not near.
A star will come from Jacob,
and a scepter will arise from Israel.
He will smash the forehead
[i] of Moab
and strike down
[j] all the Shethites

The Letter to Ephesus

September 19, 2016

Ø  Jesus knows His Church

Ø  Seminole Heights Baptist Church, God knows our heart!

Ø  Ephesus sin =

·        The  decay and declension in Holy Love!

Rev. 2:1-7, “Write to the angel[a] of the church in Ephesus:

“The One who holds the seven stars in His right hand and who walks among the seven gold lampstands says: I know your works, your labor, and your endurance, and that you cannot tolerate evil. You have tested those who call themselves apostles and are not, and you have found them to be liars. You also possess endurance and have tolerated many things because of My name and have not grown weary. But I have this against you: You have abandoned the love you had at first. Remember then how far you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you[b] and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent. Yet you do have this: You hate the practices of the Nicolaitans, which I also hate.

“Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. I will give the victor the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in[c] God’s paradise.

-        1 Corinthians 13:

If I have the gift of prophecy
and understand all mysteries
and all knowledge,
and if I have all faith
so that I can move mountains
but do not have love, I am nothing.

1.      Remember – Have you lost your 1st love

2.      Repent -  Be grieved inwardly,

3.      Return – Do what you were doing

4.      Righteousness -  hate what God hates

5.      Restored -  Revelation 2:7

“Anyone who has an ear should listen to what the Spirit says to the churches. I will give the victor the right to eat from the tree of life, which is in[c] God’s paradise.

Remember then how far you have fallen; repent, and do the works you did at first. Otherwise, I will come to you[b] and remove your lampstand from its place—unless you repent.

The Church in Chaos

September 12, 2016

What is the church to do in chaotic times?

The Young Church!

3 Things the early church did

1.      Prayed – peter in prison (Acts 12:5) So Peter was kept in prison, but the church was earnestly praying to God for him.

2.      Lived life together – daily breaking of bread

(Acts 2:46-47)

3.      The Gospel! – The early church confused the world

Acts 8: 2626 An angel of the Lord spoke to Philip: “Get up and go south to the road that goes down from Jerusalem to Gaza.” 27 So he got up and went. There was an Ethiopian man, a eunuch and high official of Candace, queen of the Ethiopians,[h] who was in charge of her entire treasury. He had come to worship in Jerusalem 28 and was sitting in his chariot on his way home, reading the prophet Isaiah aloud.

29 The Spirit told Philip, “Go and join that chariot.”

30 When Philip ran up to it, he heard him reading the prophet Isaiah, and said, “Do you understand what you’re reading?”

In world full of chaos what can the church do?

1.      Pray - 1 Thessalonians 5:17 17 pray without ceasing

2.      Live life together – more than just a Sunday thing

3.      The Gospel
